Alation accelerates its market penetration

Alation, merging leader in enterprise data cataloging, continues to grow at a rapid pace with 291% ARR fueled by 90+ customers. The company was recently visited by The IT Press Tour and the pitch the team delivered was very compelling. As of today, Alation, founded in 2012, raised $32M in 3 rounds.

The strategy is finally well aligned with market demands for data-oriented solutions as data come from tons of sources in various format with a real difficulty to extract and integrate into analytics tools.


The idea of Alation is to build a central data catalog consumed by enterprise data applications helping some kind of business agility. The result for users is a great time booster with a trusted mechanism to explore data.

The second dimension introduced recently is the integration of AI and ML into the product. The product team has identified 3 types of AI: Behavior I/O, NLP and ML.



SmartSuggest included in Alation Compose helps users to filter data rapidly. As volumes of data explode with the variety of sources, having an intelligent data cataloging technology become fundamental. And the battle is tough among new players. Alation will be interesting to visit again next year as the trajectory is impressive.
