Alation confirms its leadership position

Alation, a leader in data cataloging, joined the 42nd IT Press Tour organized this week in California. It was the 4th times and we measured all the progress made by the company even during the Covid pandemic.


The firm signed lots of customers to reach 300+ clients now with more than 50 in Europe. The surprising aspect is the strategy chosen by the company management ignoring south Europe with anecdotic plan, the image below confirms this crazy strategy driven from UK during now a post Brexit era.

At the corporate level, Alation has raised in 2021 a new round, a series D of $110 million for a total of $200 million at a $1.2 billion valuation confirming its unicorn status. The company also made an acquisition in October 2021 with Lyngo Analytics, that explains among others needs that new round.


Coming from the metadata management and data catalog segments, Alation clearly jumps into the data intelligence coupling data governance techniques with a very rich platform able to be deployed on-premises or in the cloud, in Azure, GCP or AWS. The idea of the data intelligence wave is to participate in the cloud and digital enterprises transformation with AI technologies, able to be used anywhere by any users in a growing regulations pressure.

The team accelerates on 4 axis, Data Catalog, Data Governance, Cloud and Platform and we anticipate more successes in the coming months even some corporate news.
