New 9920 from Huawei
Huawei, the global leader in IT infrastructure, refreshed its 9920 Pacific model. This new iteration integrates 25 NVMe SSDs of 30.72TB delivering 768TB raw in 2U. A minimum of 3 nodes is needed for production, data protection is based on Reed Solomon erasure coding (EC) horizontally configured across chassis for a maximum of 24 chunks. The team has designed EC with 22+2 or 20_4 i.e maximum of 4 parities chunks. In this case os small number f chassis 4+2 seems to be the best assembly for such a config. The software provides also impression and for a conservative 1.5:1 ratio it means at the end 768 x 3 x 0.8 x 1.5 ~= 2.7PB of usable space. In terms of access methods, the cluster exposes block, file and objects plus HDFS and S3 Select.
