Panzura swallowed Moonwalk Universal

Panzura, a leader in cloud file storage, just concluded its first acquisition with Moonwalk Universal, a small Australian storage software company dedicated to unstructured data management across heterogeneous file servers, NAS and client machines.

Panzura is one of the few pioneers in cloud file storage with CTERA and Nasuni and more recently with the participation of Hammerspace and belongs with the first 2 in the leader portion of the last Coldago Map 2023.

Known for its advanced file serving capabilities, the firm is less recognized for its data services, I can say a bit behind other leaders. And today, this acquisition marks a clear wish to extend this part. On the other side, Moonwalk was seen by specialists only, I monitor this company for almost 20 years with several others, lots of them disappeared or got acquired, just a few survive. It is clearly a bargain for Panzura that needs such technologies and services, the acquisition amount was not significant. Mike Harvey, former co-founder of Moonwalk, based in California is now Senior Vice President, Technology, at Panzura.

This move will invite Panzura to join the unstructured data management players and participate to the other Coldago Map dedicated to this topic. Of course as it is fresh, Panzura won't be in the 2024 flavor and Moonwalk was too small to be listed as well.

We'll see how Panzura will integrate and offer Moonwalk in the coming weeks or months but for sure the engineering team is cooking something.
